Most exterior wall lights are a box with a light in it. This one puts the box inside a frame: a slim black rectangle stands proud of the wall, and the illuminated section is suspended within it, so what shows at night is a lit panel floating inside an outline. In daylight it reads as a piece of drawn geometry against the render rather than as a fitting.

The body is stainless steel finished in sand black, a matte surface that carries rain marks far better than a gloss coating and will not streak the wall beneath it the way a ferrous fitting eventually does. Behind the diffuser sits an E27 screw holder rather than a sealed module, which means this is a lamp and not a disposable unit: when the bulb goes it is changed, and the character of the light stays your decision. It is supplied with a warm source, which is the right choice at a domestic entrance.

The frame stands 35 cm tall and 14 cm wide, and projects 13 cm from the wall — enough depth for the shadow line that makes the design work, not so much that it catches a shoulder in a narrow passage. The lit box inside measures 20 by 12 cm. The complete fitting weighs a little over a kilogram and is specified for areas of roughly 8 to 12 m2, which in practice means a doorway, a porch, a balcony or a section of courtyard wall rather than a whole garden.
