A round placemat printed with the cross-section of a felled trunk: growth rings, a split running out from the centre, the uneven edge where the bark came away. From across a room it reads as a slice of wood. Up close it is printed PVC, which is precisely why it can take a hot serving dish and then go in the sink.

Is it real wood?

No. It is PVC printed with a wood cross-section, which is what makes it waterproof and washable. Real wood of this size would need oiling and would warp in a kitchen.

Can I put a hot pan on it?

A hot serving dish, yes. We would not put a pan straight off the flame onto PVC. For that, use a bamboo or cork trivet.

How do I clean them?

A damp cloth. They can go under a tap if something has dried on. Dry them flat rather than leaving them folded.

How long does delivery take?
